The Pondicherry dosa might be my favorite NY street cart food. You don't need to wait in line to get samosas, though, so do that if the line's too long.

Filling + cheap $5 lunch in the village. Masala Dosa w/ coconut chutney and a side dish (hot soup when I went!). Eat in WashSqrPark + watch seasoned chess players hustle oncoming tourists. Bliss.

Known simply as The Dosa Cart. Thiru who prepares the food is just wonderful, serving up each meal with a smile. Get the masala dosa with coconut chutney and devour it on a bench in Washington Square.

This entirely vegan cart is beloved by all in the Village. Try the vegan drumsticks or the uthappam, a pizza-like offering.

The Special Pondicherry Dosa and a Samosa is a good place to start, though you should try it all. Just be prepared to wait on line. It is a good idea to go a little ahead or after the main lunch rush.
